Szemeredi is humble about his own teaching ability,
saying that he struggles expressing complex ideas to
students not used to his thick Hungarian accent.
"Sometimes they laugh at my accent," said
Szemeredi. "The more time I spend in this country, the
worse my English is."
Szemeredi spends most of his in front of a blackboard
immersed in math theory and equations. For Szemeredi, math
is what drives his life.
"It's kind of a hobby," said Szemeredi.
"I'm hyperactive, so it's hard for me to sit
down."
Szemeredi spends every summer with his family in Hungary.
His wife, Anna, works as a language teacher at New York
University. All of his children live in Hungary, and
unfortunately for Szemeredi, they all followed their
mother's footsteps.
"They are against math," said Szemeredi.
"All of them. They are more into humanities."
Hobbies
Szemeredi is a self-declared sports fanatic, following
baseball, hockey, basketball, NASCAR and football.
"I like sports more than mathematics," he said.
Favorite movies
Szemeredi's favorite movies are "La
Strada," an Italian movie, and "Casablanca."
