Course Announcements
Fall 2012
- The fall 2012 offering of CS 442, Topics in Computer Science, will be Introduction to Cryptography, taught by Professor Cash. It is a 4-credit course with prerequisite 01:198:206, and counts as an elective for both majors and minors. Students will learn what "secure" means in several contexts, and how to construct and formally evaluate the security of cryptographic applications like symmetric and public-key encryption, message authentication, digital signatures, hash functions, and more.
Spring 2012
- In Spring 2012, CS 442, Topics in Computer Science, will be Social Computing and Collective Intelligence, taught by Professor Hirsh. This is a 4-credit course (prerequisite: 01:198:113 or 214). It counts as an elective for both majors and minors.
- In Spring 2012, CS 443, Topics in Computer Science, will be Probabilistic Algorithms, taught by Professor Steiger. This is a 4-credit course (prerequisite: 01:198:344). It counts as an elective for both majors and minors.
Fall 2011
- Due to expected low enrollment, there is no plan to offer cs 431 in Spring, 2012. If you wish to take the course this year, there is still room in the current Fall 2011 version.
- In Fall 2011, CS 442, Topics in Computer Science, will be Introduction to Network Science: Theory, Algorithms, and Application, taught by Professor Eliassi-Rad. This is a 4-credit course (prerequisites: 01:198:112,205,206 or permission of instructor). It counts as an elective for both majors and minors.
Fall 2010 - Spring 2011
- In Fall 2010, CS 442, Topics in Computer Science, will be Systems Aspects of Information Management, taught by Professor Marian. This is a 4-credit course and counts as a CS elective for majors and minors.
- In Spring 2011, CS 431, Software Engineering, will not be offered, due to anticipated low demand.
- The following two topics courses will be offered in Spring 2011. Both are 4-credit courses and count as CS electives for majors and minors.
- CS 442, Topics in Physics Based Modeling (prerequisite CS 336), taught by Prof. Metaxas.
- CS 443, Introduction to Software Methodology (prerequisite: CS 112), taught by Prof. Venugopal. Note: CS 443 will cover many of the same topics as the former CS 113, and is thus **not** open to students who have taken CS 113.
