Network Performance

In 2000, we noticed that connections between Rutgers and the rest of the Internet had been slow since the beginning of the fall semester. LCSR was asked to perform some testing in order to localize the problem. In performing these tests we gathered a great deal of information and posted it here for interested parties to consult.

The graphs on the pages listed below show latency and packet loss as determined by a 30 packet ping done every 15 minutes. Lost packets are not included in the latency computation. The ping is to a machine in LCSR from machines using cable modems operated by Optimum Online and Comcast. Each plot is against a 24 hour clock.

Though the initial problem has been addressed, we have left the data gathering in place and find it useful to check when the occasional glitch occurs.
