Network Performance

Connections between Rutgers and the rest of the Internet have been slow since the beginning of the fall semester. LCSR was asked by Chuck Hedrick to perform some testing in order to localize the problem. In performing these tests we have gathered a great deal of information and are posting it here for interested parties to consult.

The graphs on the pages listed below show latency and packet loss as determined by a 30 packet ping done every 15 minutes. Lost packets are not included in the latency computation. The ping is to a machine in LCSR from various machines using cable modems operated by Cablevision (Optimum Online, optonline.net), Comcast @Home (nj.home.net) -- now Comcast (comcast.net), Raritan Cable (Erols, nywnj.ny.rcn.net), and Rutgers riverdorms-gw.rutgers.edu). Each plot is against a 24 hour clock.
