WARNING: It is recommended that you check that your particular setup will work with the hardware in the room. While the hardware/software has been provided to work with most user hardware/software combinations, it cannot work with everything (for instance, you cannot use "airplay" on a mac running windows, since windows doesn't run airplay natively.)
The videoconferencing rooms are checked for functionality every day, however, it is still recommended that you check that things work to your satisfaction with your particular presentation setup before a presentation (a day before is best, since it will give time to find workarounds for problems you might find.)
Using the touchscreen in Core 305
The 80-inch display in Core 305 is hooked up to a windows machine (it auto-logs-in to a dummy unpriviliged user - if you need extra software, please send mail to help AT cs.rutgers.edu). The touchscreen treats touch events (but see "USE THE STYLUS", below) as mouse events, including taps as left-mouse-button. The stylus has left and right mouse buttons built in -- you should familiarize yourself with which is which.
After experience with the microphone mounted in the camera seemed to lead to echo-ing problems, we've added a USB 'conferencing mike' which can sit on the conferencing table. If the microphone doesn't work (because somebody's fooled with the settings), select the microphone input from skype (or google+) for that USB microphone.
The camera mounted above the display is usable by skype or google+ (or any other application that can address a usb camera.)
USE THE STYLUS
While the touchscreen will work (partially) with one's finger as a point-click device, we recommend you use the stylus. This always seems to work, and has left and right mouse buttons built in. (Your finger works, but not for everything -- such as dragging windows. We've just found using the stylus is less effort in the long run.)
There is also a popup keyboard (the control for it peeks out from the left hand side of the display), but the old-fashioned one was just easier in our experience.
Use the (surprisingly simple) remote.
Point it at the "sharp" logo on the lower righthand side of the screen.
Displaying from other devices
Currently, you must attach to the free-floating VGA cable to be found under the conference room table (labeled "TV". Make sure you select the input (using the 'input' button on the remote) correctly. Note that there is a second vga feed under the table (to the projector -- labeled, unsurprisingly, "Projector"); this is connected to the table's popup device, and should not be disconnected.
If the stylus-screen synchronization is incorrect (this may occur if other devices are connected to the screen and change that synchronization, or the screen image is moved around with the remote), you may have to recalibrate.
- Open (with the mouse, if necessary) the popup quick-menu thingie in the lower left of the screen.
- Select the "Set Touchpanel Utility Setting" popup
- From that popup, select "Calibration"
- From the "Select Calibration" popup, Select "Advanced"
- Select "Set Manually (4 points)
(We find 4 points, rather than the more laborious 25 point calibration to be sufficient.)
- A touch-me cross will appear in the upper right corner.
Use the stylus to touch and hold at the point. A little countdown will appear in the "Set Manually" window. When the countdown is finished, the next point will appear. (Each is in one corner.)
