The Rutgers Computer Science Department is pleased to announce Distinguished Professor Mario Szegedy has been awarded a National Science Foundation Grant for Collaborative Research: FET: Medium: Quantum Monte Carlo Speed Ups for Multilevel Computations and Other Statistical Algorithms.
This project aims to develop advanced computational methods that combine classical and quantum algorithms in statistics and operations research, with a focus on applications in fields like machine learning and data analytics. The team will create quantum-enhanced algorithms to improve decision-making under uncertainty and accelerate multilevel Monte Carlo methods, leading to more efficient Bayesian inference and machine learning processes. The research also includes educational outreach to broaden participation in quantum computing. The project builds on recent advances in quantum and classical algorithms, targeting significant speed-ups in solving complex optimization problems, with results expected to benefit various scientific disciplines.
