Congratulations to Prof. Dimitris Metaxas and his Ph.D. advisee Menglin Jiang, who won the best student paper award at MICCAI 2015, the 18th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computing Assisted Innovations, held in Munich, Germany. Their paper, entitled “Joint kernel based supervised hashing for scalable histopathological image analysis,” was one of four award papers selected from a pool of 263 published papers (and 810 submissions).The three other co-authors on the paper are also all Rutgers PhD alumni, employed as faculty at other universities: (1) Shaoting Zhang, a 2012 Rutgers DCS PhD alum, who is currently on the CS faculty at University of North Carolina-Charlotte, (2) Junzhou Huang, a 2011 Rutgers DCS PhD alum, who is currently on the CS faculty at University of Texas-Arlington, and (3) Lin Yang, a 2009 Rutgers Computer Engineering Ph.D. alum, who is on the Biomedical Engineering faculty at the University of Florida-Gainsville. Both Shaoting Zhang and Junzhou Huang completed their Ph.D. degrees with Prof. Dimitris Metaxas as thesis supervisor.
