Congratulations to CS faculty member Abhishek Bhattacharjee, whose research lab has recently been awarded two research grants.
The first one, entitled "Architectural Techniques for Energy-Efficient Brain-Machine Implants", has been awarded by the National Science Foundation. This award will focus on the design of ultra-energy-efficient hardware for implantable brain-machine interfaces used to record and stimulate the activity of biological neurons. These brain implants can help shed light on brain function and can partly mitigate symptoms of an array of neurological ailments.
The second one, entitled "Virtual Memory Abstractions for Heterogeneous Server-Scale Systems in Virtualized Environments", has been awarded by VMware and will focus on the design of high-performance computer architectures and operating systems for the cloud.
