    The Department of Computer Science at Rutgers University invites applications for a non-tenure track position. This position will primarily involve teaching at the undergraduate level, although depending on experience, can also include teaching in our MS programs and developing and managing applied learning opportunities such as internships. We have particular instructional needs in the broad area of Data Science, including foundations, data management, and analytics.

    The appointment will start September 1, 2020, and will be for two years, renewable contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Reappointments are typically for multiple years. Rutgers makes non-track appointments at Assistant, Associate, Full or Distinguished Professor level, and offers tracks for both Teaching Professors and Professors of Professional Practice. The rank and track of the appointment will reflect the candidate’s experience and anticipated duties.

    Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate classes, interviewing and hiring recitation instructors and graders (typically senior undergraduate or MS students), coordinating and supervising recitation sections, creating exams, homework, and programming assignments (possibly in collaboration with other instructors), coordinating and supervising grading, and curriculum development over time. Other duties, such as teaching in our MS programs or managing applied learning opportunities such as internships, are also possible depending on experience.

  • Requirements: A PhD in Computer Science or closely related field is required, although candidates with an MS and substantial industry experience in software systems design and implementation are encouraged to apply and will be considered. At least one year of college-level teaching experience in Computer Science is strongly preferred.
