CS206 CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS - FALL 2009
I will use this page to give breaking news concerning the course. You should refer to it on a regular basis.
1. (August 30, 2009) NOTICE: We have class on Sept 8, a virtual
Monday for Rutgers
2. (Sept. 8, 2009) Homework 1 is available via the Homeworks
page. Also you should download and begin reading Review Sheet 1.
3. (Sept. 18, 2009) Review Sheet 2 is available from the
"handouts" page. You should download it and begin using it as we
proceed through that material.
4. (Sept. 18, 2009) Homework 2 has been updated, so you should
download the new version. Tentatively it will be due in class on Wed.,
Sept. 30, 2009.
5. (Sept. 18, 2009) REMINDER: You should check the
"Preparing for Class" page frequently, at least before each
class. It contains what I intend to cover, and what was actually
covered.
6. (Sept. 21, 2009) 1) Announcement 3, above is NOW TRUE: Review
Sheet 2 really is available. 2) Question 5 on HW2 had an error. You
should get the corrected version.
7. (Sept. 23, 2009) On Monday, Sept. 28, instead of class, Pavel
will conduct recitation from 3:20-4:15, Hill 120. On Wed., Sept 30, instead of
recitation, I will teach new material, Hill 202. The regular class
will then take place as usual from 3:20-4:40, Hill 120.
8. (Sept. 25, 2009) Some practice problems have been posted on the
Homeworks page.
9. (Sept. 27, 2009) Tomorrows office hours moved to Tuesday, 9/29,
2-3.
10. (Oct. 5, 2009) Some solutions for HW 1 are posted via the HW
page.
11. (Oct. 6, 2009) Homework 3 (preliminary) is available.
12. (Oct. 6, 2009) Two previous midterms (and some solutions)
appear on the Past Exams page.
13. (Oct. 13, 2009) The midterm will take place on Oct 28 in the
regular classroom. You will be able to use one page of prepared notes
(both sides) but otherwise it is CLOSED BOOK.
14. (Oct. 13, 2009) Review sheet 3 on Random Variables is
available.
15. (Oct. 20, 2009) Homework 4 is available.
16. (Oct. 22, 2009) There is a web page Preparing for Class that tells what I plan
to teach. You could check out those topics in the review sheet, or the
text, and be ready for whats going to be taught. Then
after the class, I adjust the entry to reflect what was actually
covered. Its been there all semester.
17. (Oct. 23, 2009) On Monday I will review topics for the
Midterm, which is on Wednesday. You can bring questions from previous
midterms that are posted on the Exams webpage.
18. (Oct. 23, 2009) Homework 3 solutions are available.
19. (Oct. 28, 2009) The midterm will be in SEC 212.
20. (Nov. 2, 2009) The midterm and solutions are posted on the
Exams page.
21. (Nov. 3, 2009) The due date for HW4 IS CHANGED. Its now due on
Nov. 9, 2009.
22. (Nov. 8, 2009) Homework 5 is available. Its due date is not
yet fixed.
23. (Nov. 14, 2009) Review sheet 4 is now available. It covers
last Wednesdays class and what will be taught in the next weeks.
24. (Nov. 16, 2009) Homework 5 is REVISED. There are two more
questions. It is now due on Nov 25 - in class - or before that, at my
office.
25. (Nov 22, 2009) Since there is NO class Nov 25, HW5 is due in
class Nov 23, or at my office BY Wed., Nov. 25, correcting the
statement above.
26. (Nov 22, 2009) Practice Problems II are available. They cover
variance and covariance, and the new topics, the law of large
numbers, Tchebycheff's inequality, generating functions, and the
random walk on the integers. I am considering placing (*) on some of
them and offering them for extra credit - stay tuned!
