Setting up SunPCI card

1.    Install the latest SunPCI software using pkgadd.  The most up-to-date version for Solaris 8 is version 1.2.1.  This can be found at farside:/staff/src2/robtuck/SUNWspci.tar.Z

2.    Copy the Windows 98 image onto the target machine.  You need a minimum of 2GB of free contiguous space to install the image.  The current
image can found at curly:/curly/tmp/C.diskimage.  This image includes the following software:

There are also several printers that have been pre-configured:   core3, dcs, lp3, rgb, igment, and corelj

3.    As root, run the /opt/SUNWspci/bin/vold_floppy_disable script.  This script removes volume manager's control of the floppy.
       (Most user's don't use the floppy on the Solaris side.  They can still mount the floppy manually if needed.)

4.    As root,  change the ownership of the Windows 98 image to that of the local user.

5.    As root, run /opt/SUNWspci/bin/sunpciflash to upgrade the SunPCI card's bios.

6.    Create a directory in the user's home directory called "pc".  Copy the following into a file called SunPC.ini under the "pc" directory:

    [UI]
    Screen size=640 480

    [Drives]
    A drive=/dev/rdiskette
    CD=/vol/dev/aliases/cdrom0
    C drive=/<path to disk image>/C.diskimage

    [Disk32]
    Enabled=Yes

7.    Setup the DHCP entry on knowfuture.rutgers.edu.  Contact Hanz or Rob Tuck for more details.  The ethernet address of the machine is required to setup the DHCP entry.  A seperate IP address is required for the SunPCI card.

8.    Once the networking has been setup,  run /opt/SUNWspci/bin/sunpci to start the SunPCI card.  Wait for Windows 98 to boot.

9.    Once Windows 98 has booted, you will be presented with a login screen.  User can enter their username and just click OK.  A password is not necessary.  This is just a Windows password.

10.    Right click on "Network Neighborhood" and select "Properties".  The "Network" window will appear.  Click on the "Identification" tab.  Set the computer name to <machine-name>-pc.  Set the workgroup to "Workgroup".  Click "OK".  Click "Yes" to reboot.

11.    After the card reboots,  it should be ready for use.
