Student Systems Administrator
Objective:
Seeking motivated individual wishing to enter the Computer Systems Administrator field.
Starting:
As Soon As Possible
Hours:
Available hours of work are 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday. 10-15 hours of work per week is required during the school semester. 20-30 hours of work per week is available during the holidays and summer.
Wage:
Starting $12.35/hr
Initial Brief Probationary Period of $9/hr
Experience and Skills:
No skills officially required, as most skills will be learned on the job. Guided instruction will be given, but the new hire must be able to learn on their own through sources provided. The following would be helpful, but are not required:
  • Familiarity with Linux administration
  • Simple scripting (such as Bash, Perl, or PHP)
  • Basic computer networking knowledge.
  • Basic web publishing skills.
College Enrollment:
Applicants do NOT need to be enrolled in Rutgers University to apply. If you are enrolled, all grade levels are welcome to apply.
Overview:

The Laboratory for Computer Science Research Computing Facility (LCSR-CF) is currently looking for a Student System Administrator. This position will assist in the installation, maintenance and testing of the computer systems within the Division of Computer and Information Sciences (DCIS), which includes the Department of Computer Science (DCS).

System currently in operation consist mostly of Unix-like operating systems and primary responsibilities may include...

  • Installing and testing new operating systems.
  • Installing and testing new software.
  • Documenting current and new procedures, policies, and available resources. 1st level help desk response.
  • Basic scripting and programming for administrative benefits.
  • Information searching, gathering and analysis.
  • Physical labor may be required on occasion.
  • Much, much, more...

In the future, Windows operating systems tasks may also become relevant.
