Workshop dinner

Tuesday, May 4, 7pm at the Paradou restaurant at 8 Little West 12th St., New York, NY 10014.
Note that Little West 12th St. is different from, and a few blocks north of, West 12th St.

Getting there (MAP):

  • Take a taxi: I suggest people meet in the lobby of Club Quarters at 6:40pm to share taxis. You can tell the taxi to take you to the corner of Greenwich Street and Little W. 12th St (which will avoid a U-turn). The restaurant will be a few doors in to the left on Little W. 12th St.

  • Take the subway: Take the #1 train uptown from the Rector St. station or the #1, 2, or 3 train uptown from the Chambers St station. Either way, get off at the 14th St. station and walk West (to the left from the direction the train was traveling) on 14th Street until you get to 9th Avenue. Turn left on 9th Avenue and Little W. 12 will be one or two blocks ahead. Turn right on Little W. 12th Street and the restaurant will be a few doors in. (Or, you can take the A train from Chambers St at Church St to 14th St at 8th Avenue.)
  • Walk from Club Quarters or NYAS: a scenic walk along the Hudson River is about two miles, or closer to three miles if you walk as close to the water right away instead of at Chambers St. Note: if you do this, your best place to leave the river is at Horatio Street, which will be up a ramp to your right after you pass a children's playground on your left, and before a pier filled with sanitation trucks. From there, follow Horatio Street for one block, then turn left on Washington Street and right on Little W. 12th St.

  • Get there early and spend some time near the restaurant:

    • High Line Park (my recommendation): Recently opened on a previously abandoned elevated freight train line. The farthest downtown entrance is right by the restaurant, at Gansevoort Street and Washington Street. Other entrances are along 10th Avenue at 16th Street, 18th Street, and 20th Street. www.thehighline.org

    • The Apple Store: In case you want to pick up an iPad on your way to dinner. At the corner of 9th Avenue and 14th Street. www.apple.com

    • The Meatpacking District: Formerly an actual meat-packing district, this neighborhood now features high-fashion retail, fancy hotels, and excellent restaurants, while still retaining some of the original gritty character and cobblestone streets. www.meatpacking-district.com

    • Chelsea Market: Formerly a Nabisco factory, now gourmet food shops and other retailers. www.chelseamarket.com
