Max Isaac L's online diary (July 1994 and before)

This diary is pulled together from updates that my dad sent to his friends about my progress. Don't just read --- send him a note!

The entries here are arranged from most recent to least recent. That way you can find out the latest news easily!

Friday, July 29th

Today (7/29), at 5:03pm, Lisa gave birth to Max Isaac L. extremely prematurely. Max is 490g (about 1 pound, 1 ounce) and is doing well for his age (27 weeks gestation) in the special care nursery in the hospital here. Lisa is recovering well from the surgery.

About a week ago, a routine exam revealed that Max wasn't growing well. We spent a week in the hospital with Lisa under close observation. After much consideration of options, her doctors determined that Max wasn't doing well inside and that he could be helped better on the outside. About an hour after the decision, the birth (by cesarean section) was complete. It went extremely smoothly, with Lisa awake the whole time with me at her side.

The chances for Max are pretty ok. If everything goes perfectly, he'll be able to come home with us at around the original due date: October 25th. We'll be in the hospital for about 3 or 4 days from now for Lisa's recovery and then we'll be watching and waiting.

Friday, June 24th

Lisa's doing well. She's starting to feel ``Max'' move around (we found out we're having a boy). I don't know if we're going to take classes or not. She knows a lot about birth already but there are things we need to know. We'll see.

Thursday, June 16th

We heard Max's heart yesterday at a standard check up. Sounds good. The monitor also picked up some movement (sounds like a ``wump!'') but Lisa didn't feel it.

Here's how we found out his sex. Lisa had a bad ``AFP'' screening test so we had to go in for a detailed ultrasound. The ultrasound indicated that everything was ok but Lisa decided to get an amnio done just to be sure. During the ultrasound, the baby had its legs crossed so it was impossible to tell the sex. However, when the results of the amnio came back they had ``normal male karyotype'' and so we knew the sex.

We had some great choices of female names but Max was the only male named we liked. He'll be named after Lisa's late brother. The middle name will be for my grandfather (Harry/Israel) so we'll probably use an ``H'' or ``I'' or perhaps ``Y'' (since Israel starts with a yud).

Wednesday, June 15th

Lisa's in her 5th month of pregnancy so we're halfway through. We found out recently (after a little screening test scare) that we're having a boy and we're going to call him Max. Should be fun.

The neat news, however, is that we're expecting a baby on October. According to the amnio, it'll be a little boy named Max. We're pretty excited although a bit overwhelmed.

Tuesday, June 14th

I may have felt Max for the first time last night (hand on Lisa's belly). Hard to tell.

Thursday, June 2nd

We're having a little boy named ``Max'' around October 25th. Terrifying but darn exciting.

We found out that we're having a boy named ``Max.'' Medical technology is certainly impressive.

Tuesday, May 31st

We had a bit of a pregnancy-related scare last week but everything turned out ok. The upshot is that we learned the sex of the baby. He'll be named ``Max'' after Lisa's brother, Mark.

Thursday, March 24th

The interesting news is that we're gearing up for our own baby. Yesterday Lisa had ner first prenatal ultrasound and everything looks ok so it's official. (gulp.) More as things progress...

Tuesday, March 1st

You asked if we are pregnant or if the earlier message was a false alarm. Still looks promising. Official word (via ultrasound) comes in two weeks so maybe I'll know soon.

Thursday, February 17th

Assuming no one snoops on this message, you'll be the absolute first person (other than me and Lisa) to know this.

There is some chance that the last round of baby-starting might have been successful. This is extremely tentative but I wanted to let you in on it.
