Call for Papers
The First instructional Conference on Machine Learning
Topics for Submission
iCML-03 welcomes submissions on all facets of machine learning and
especially solicits papers on problem areas, research topics, learning
paradigms, and approaches to evaluation that include:
- the role of learning in natural language and speech, vision, planning
and scheduling, design and configuration, logical and spatial reasoning,
motor control, and more generally on learning for performance tasks
carried out by intelligent agents;
- the discovery of scientific laws and taxonomies, the construction of
componential and structural models, and learning at multiple levels of
temporal and spatial resolution;
- novel applications of machine, particularly those that require
non-standard techniques;
- computational models of human learning, exploratory research that
describes novel learning tasks, work that integrates familiar methods to
demonstrate new functionality, and agent architectures in which learning
plays a central role.
We also welcome submissions on all the traditional topics of Machine
Learning.
Format of the Conference
The conference will be co-located with CS536. The conference will
be held on December 3, 2003 and December 8,
2003 and
will include a one-day program of workshops as well as talks, poster
sessions, and informal gatherings designed to foster discussion of
research in machine learning.
The main conference will include only a plenary track for the
presentation of papers published in the conference proceedings. Speakers will
also present their work as part of the poster session, which will allow
conference attendees to discuss the work with the authors at greater
length.
In addition to paper presentations, there will be a talk given by an
invited speaker. Please watch for the announcement of the distinguished
speaker for this year's conference.
Paper Submission
Authors should submit papers using the same format and length as will be
required for the final proceedings version. Detailed instructions, as well as
templates for LaTeX and Word are available from
http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~icml2002/format.html
These specify two-column style, Times Roman font with 10 point type, vertical
spacing of 11 points, overall text width of 6.75 inches, length of 9.0
inches, 0.25 inches between the two columns, top margin of 1.0 inch, and left
margin of 0.75 inch. (The right and bottom margins will depend on whether one
uses US letter or A4 paper.) Contrary to the instructions above,
papers must not exceed four (4) pages including figures and
references. We will return papers that do not satisfy these
requirements to the author.
The deadline for submission to iCML-03 is 27 October 2003.
Submission will be entirely electronic, with details to be announced.
Authors must submit papers in pdf format to ensure our ability
to review them.
iCML-03 allows simultaneous submission to other conferences or
classes, provided this fact is clearly indicated on the submission
form. Simultaneous submissions that are not clearly specified as such
will be rejected.
Review Process
All papers submitted to iCML-03 will be read by at least three
reviewers, as well as the program chair. We reserve the right to
designate some papers as "conditionally accepted", meaning that the
author will have an opportunity to make specific revisions to the
paper before the conference program is finalized. If the conditions
for accepting are met, the revised paper will be accepted for
presentation.
