CS 113 (Introduction to Software Methodology) is being offered for the last time in Fall 2009, to be replaced in Spring 2010 by CS 214 - Systems Programming. The new course will focus on C and its accompanying lower-level programming paradigm. Our plan is for a course similar to CS 113 to reappear at a future point in the form of a 300-level elective. Here are some important details relating to this change:
  • The prerequisites for CS 214 are CS 112 (Data Structures) and CS 211 (Computer Architecture). CS 211 may be taken concurrently with permission of instructor.
  • In the requirements for a BA or BS degree in computer science, 'CS 113' will become 'CS 113 or 214'.
  • For courses which list CS 113 as a prerequisite (i.e., CS 314, 416, 431), this prerequisite will become 'CS 113 or 214'.
  • For students who have taken CS 113, CS 214 is neither expected nor recommended. Only one of these courses will count toward BA or BS degree requirements in computer science
