Spam filtering now available

Mail sent to users at cs.rutgers.edu are now passed through a filter to detect potential spam. Lines are added to the headers of each message indicating the results of the scan. The filter itself take no action other than placing annotations in the headers. The decision to redirect messages is made by each user for their own email and can be undone or redone as desired. If you do nothing your email will continue to be received as it is today.

The following are instructions for redirecting messages suspected of being spam to a separate folder/mailbox. If you are interested in reducing spam we recommend you use this approach. We also provide instructions for deleting all mail which is suspected of being spam but we do not recommend this option. The filter is very good but errs on both sides - some spam is classified as an authentic message and some authentic messages are classified as spam. To reiterate, we recommend rerouting suspected spam to a separate folder as opposed to deleting it.

If you'd like to redirect messages refer to the following instructions.
