Introduction

The SNOM320 is a VOIP/SIP instrument that provides standard telephone
functionality. In conjunction with the Asterisk server it is able to
display caller ID information, record and update personalize voicemail
greetings, receive and initiate internal, local, or long distance
calls, and retrieve voicemail.
|
The manufacturer's instructions can be found at
http://www.snom.com/wiki/index.php/Snom320/Phone_GUI.
They are written from an operational perspective and describe what
happens when you perform an action.
This document is intended as a "how-to" document and describes how to
use the phone.
Please send email to help@cs with suggestions or problems you have with
this document or the phones. This document is a work in progress and
will undergo continual revision.

Dialing Conventions
We have decided to imitate the Rutgers dialing conventions as much as
possible. This is not required (e.g., there is no need to dial 9 to
get an outside line) but we have made this choice to reduce the number
of different phone conventions of which users need to be aware.
- VOIP/SIP extension - dial the four digit extension.
- Currently only a few people have a VOIP/SIP phone. If extension
dialed has no phone you will be asked to leave voicemail which will be
delivered to the registered owner of the extension.
- internal to Rutgers - dial 5-dddd or 2-dddd
- external to Rutgers - dial 9-1-ddd-ddd-dddd
- international - dial 9-011-countryCode-cityCode-localNumber

Transferring a Call
Phone calls can be transferred to another phone number or extension.
Transferring to another SIP extension does not increase the load on
our services. Transferring to other than a SIP extension, even local
to Rutgers, consumes resources during the duration of the call. For
example, if the area Dean calls you, you transfer the call to a
colleague in Math, and then hang up, our asterisk service keeps the
Dean/Math connection open until the call is finished. This ties up
two of the CS external phone lines. Please use this sparingly
during our test period.
- For attended transfers:
- Place incoming call on hold
- Dial the extension to transfer the caller to and press the
button
- Wait for the extension answer
- To connect the caller to the new extension, press the "Conference" button -- you should hear both parties.
- Hang up your phone
- For unattended transfers:
- Place incoming call on hold
- Press the "Transfer" button
- Dial the extension to transfer the caller to and press the
button. You should see a "Disconnected" message on the display.
- Hang up your phone
