The Xerox Document Centre 480ST copier, located in room Hill 381, is capable of scanning printed material into electronic form to produce PDF and TIFF image documents. To do so follow the below instructions.
1) On the Xerox LCD display, select the "Network Scanning" tab in the upper right hand corner.
2) Select @Faculty, @Research or @Graduate, depending on where you would like the files to be placed.
3) Select any Image Adjustment properties you wish, such as Resolution, Single-sided, or Double-Sided. Double-sided originals is the default. If your originals are single-sided and you scan using the default setting every other page in the pdf document will be blank.
4) Load the original document either in the above external document feeder face up or on the internal glass face down. Note: The Xerox machine will complain about trying to make double sided copies if you use the glass top for copying the originals.
4) Press the green start button.
5) Once you are done scanning, press the "Copy" tab on the top to return the Xerox machine to it's original state.
6) Log onto a Faculty, Research, or Graduate Domain computer (depending on what you selected in Step 2).
7) Change your directory by typing "cd ~xerox/network_scanning".
8) Your files will be located in that directory. The file{s} will be called "DOC" appended with a unique number and the file type ("PDF" or "TIFF"). Each document file will also be accompanied with a text file describing the options used to produce the file.<\p>
THESE FILES WILL BE READABLE BY ANYONE WITH A FACULTY ACCOUNT (if you selected @Faculty in step 2) or ANYONE WITH A RESEARCH ACCOUNT (if you selected @Research in step 2) or ANYONE WITH A GRADUATE ACCOUNT (if you selected @Graduate in step 2). So it's important to do step 9) as soon as possible.
9) Lastly, PLEASE CLEAN UP the directory for the next user by removing any files that were created.
