If you are using web browser to read your email, there is no setup necessary. Simply point your browser to http://dragon.rutgers.edu
and you are ready to use email. Even if you do not plan to read
your email via the web browser, you should familiarize yourself with
its interface because many configuration options, such as different
looks (skins) to provide more visually rich interfaces, spam rules, adding specialized rules, etc can only be set using the web interface. For more details on how to do this see http://dragon.rutgers.edu/Guide/WebMail.html
If you are using modern graphical user interface (GUI) mail client like Apple Mail, Outlook Express, Outlook, Thunderbird, or Mozzilla, you will need to setup your mail reader to read mail from dragon.
Setting up mail client to use Dragon mailserver is easy. Depending on your mail client,
the configuration layout could be a little different but the essential
information should be the same.
Read the OIT documentation
website on how to setup your mail client and replace all
servers information with: dragon.rutgers.edu.
We recommend that you setup your mail client using the IMAP protocol.
IMAP allows you access your email from a central location. Unlike the
POP3 protocol, IMAP protocol leaves your email on the server and allows
you to access your email from multiple simultaneous clients. If you use
POP3 protocol, your email gets downloaded to your local computer and
removed from the server. If at a later time you decide to read your
email from a web browser, you wont be able to find any of your previous
email.
| IMAP Settings for | Server Name | Protocol | Advance Security | Ports* |
| Incoming Mail server | dragon.rutgers.edu | IMAP | SSL | 993 (SSL) |
| Outgoing Mail server | dragon.rutgers.edu | SMTP | SSL | 465 (SSL) 2525 (SSL) 2500 (SSL) |
|
* Ports: Please note that RUWireless and some ISPs block the outgoing mail
port and force you to send email using their approved mail server. If
you are using a laptop this is very inconvenient. In such
cases, you may want to change your outgoing mail port to port 2500. If
port 2500 (SSL) does not work with your email client, use port 2525 (SSL).
You must authenticate your outgoing SMTP server on your mail client. Without authentication, your email will likely be classified as spam depending on where you send the email from. | ||||

If you plan to use Pine with more than one account, please see: Incoming Mail Collection and Using Roles in Pine. Please note that Pine is not a supported mail client. You are on your own if you use Pine. For more help about Pine see: Pine Information Center

Changing one password and not the other, means you have 2 passwords to access your email. You can use both passwords to access your Mail and Webmail (IMAP/POP3/SMTP/HTTP), however this wont work when used for Calendar or Pronto or Instant Messaging.(XIMSS/CALDAV)
Hopefully, this will get fixed in the next patch, in the mean time,
you will need to use the Internal password to access Calendar, Instant Messaging and Pronto. If you forget the password, you can login
using your current password to the web interface and change your internal password.
