Settings Up ThunderBird Calendar with Dragon Mail Server via CalDAV

Mozilla Thunderbird, the mail client from Mozilla does not support calendars by default. However, you can add Calendar functionality by installing Lightning Extension. In this document, we will talk about adding and configuring calendar in Thunderbird to work with our Mail/Calendar server, dragon.rutgers.edu
Step 1. Add Calendar support to Thunderbird.
If you already have Lightning extension installed on your Thunderbird, you can skip this step.
- Click on the Lightning Extension button below. Your web browser will open and you'll be taken to the Lightning Extension web page as seen in picture below. Please note, latest version of Thunderbird may require latest (nightly) version of Lightning. Don't forget to look for a version that works for your version of Thunderbird.

- Download and Save the Lighting extension on your Desktop.
- Open Thunderbird.
- Select Tools - > Add-ons from the menu bar.
- In the pop-up window, click Install in the bottom left.
- A dialog box will open asking you for the extension to install. Go to your desktop and choose the Lightning-version.xpi
and click Open to install the extension.
- Restart your Thunderbird to load the new Add-on. On a restart you will see Calendar add-on the bottom left of your screen as seen in the figure below.

Step 2.Configure the Calendar to work with Dragon Mail server.
- Click on the Calendar icon as seen on the above picture. This will take you to the calendar window.
- Select Calendar- >New Calendar to Create a new calendar.
- A window will open asking your where to store your calendar as seen in figure below.

- Select On the Network and click Next to continue.

- A new window as shown above will open asking your to customize your new Calendar. Enter your calendar name, set the color for your calendar and select your Email address as seen in the figure above.
Click Next to continue

- A window will open asking you about what format your network calendar is.
- Make sure you choose CalDAV for the format and
- in the URL field make sure you enter: (note:this URL is case sensitive)
https://dragon.rutgers.edu/CalDAV/Calendar
- When you finish, click Next to create your calendar.

- On completion, you will be asked to enter your username and password as seen in the above window. Click Ok to complete the setup.
You can now add, delete and change your calendar entry on dragon by clicking on the calendar itself.
