Administering Computer Science Mailing List

by Hanz Makmur

To manage a list that you own, you need to login using  the web interface of dragon at:
http://dragon.rutgers.edu

Once logged in, click on the Folders item to see a list of your mail Folders.
Lets name the list  myList for the purpose of this documentation.

To change the List settings:

Click on (LIST) from Folders/myList (LIST) This will open a new page with many possible options that can be changed.

Managing Subscribers:

By default,  the list is setup to require the list owner to approve the subscription. In this moderated mode, all subscription requests will be stored in the myList/requests mailbox until they are approved.

To add subscription via web interface,  Click on (LIST) from Folders/myList(LIST) and click Subscribers from the Top/Right box.

Add username into the Single Address field and click Subscribe

Make sure you set the FeedBack options to "Ask Confirmation." so user can verify that they actually signed up.

If you don't feel like going to the web interface, you can also approve subscription request via email. To do this, the List moderator  should simply "redirect" these requests to the myList-on@cs.rutgers.edu.

To unsubscribe, moderator can use the same web interface and unsubcribe the subscriber email address.

Managing POST.

By default every posting to the list does not require approval from the  moderator. If moderator wants to have more control of who can post and not post, the list moderator can go back to the same Subscribers page above and set the way a post should be done per individual user.

Approving posting from subscriber.

Just incase the list moderator decides to moderate posting to the list, it is the job of the moderator to approve every user's posting to the list. All posting send by users will sit in the myList/requests folder until they are handled by the list owner.

To post subscriber's messages to the list,  the list owner needs to redirects the message back to the list by sending email to myList@cs.rutgers.edu.

Please note: Messages not approved by moderator will never gets posted to the list.
