PLDI '99 Educators' Grant Program

1999 ACM SIGPLAN Conference on
Programming Language Design and Implementation

Sponsored by ACM SIGPLAN in cooperation with ACM SIGSOFT

PLDI '99 is proud to announce the availability of grants for faculty from colleges with high female and/or minority enrollment to attend the tutorials on Saturday, May 1st, 1999 at PLDI '99 in Atlanta, GA. Tutorial attendees are also eligible to receive funding to attend the conference, May 2 - 4, 1999. Funding for the grants is provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF), ACM SIGPLAN and Compaq Computer Corporation.

Faculty members attending the tutorials and conference will be exposed to state-of-the-art research in programming languages and compiler design. They will also be provided with materials and training that will help them improve their existing curricula and/or introduce new curricula. PLDI '99 is part of the Federated Computing Research Conference (FCRC), which co-locates ten conferences and workshops in different areas of computer science. PLDI's participation in FCRC will also give participants an opportunity to find out about the latest research across a broad range of subfields in computer science.

The grants will cover travel and accomodation expenses up to $1,000, plus the PLDI '99 tutorial and conference registration. See the FCRC '99 web site for information about travel and hotel arrangements for the conference.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a faculty member in good standing at a college with high female and/or minority enrollment, actively involved in undergraduate teaching of computer science, and have no other sources of funding to attend the PLDI '99 tutorials and conference.

The deadline for applications is March 31, 1999. An on-line application form is available. Or, you can download the form in PostScript or ASCII text and mail it (either electronic mail or physical mail) to the 1999 PLDI Tutorials Chair:
