Introduction
We install, maintain and monitor the IP networks for the departemnts of Computer Science, DIMACS, Industrial Engineering and Mathematics. The network infrustructure consists of a switched gigabit backbone, switched gigabit and 100 megabit connections to departmental servers and switched 10/100 megabit connections to office and lab equipment. Our Internet connection is currently limited to a single 100MB pipe to OIT/TD.

Other services provided, include hostname registration, static and dynamic DHCP entries, NAT and public IP subnet services...
Service Level
We support Gigabit switched Ethernet between our backbone Cisco catalyst switches, located within the CoRE building and Hill Center.

We support Gigabit switched Ethernet to our critical servers located within our 2nd floor machine room, located in the CoRE building.

We support 10/100 Megabit switched Ethernet from our access layer switches to the Faculty and graduate/TA student offices and research labs within the CoRE building, Hill Center and Psychology building.

We also support Gigabit networking to offices and labs as needed for specific research projects.
Usage Guides
Office and lab machines can connect to the network either through our physical network or through our wireless network.

Physical network connections -
Every DCS office and lab has dedicated wall jacks for networking. Hill Center offices have 2 connection jacks and CoRE building offices have 4 connection jacks each. All Lab rooms have either 6 or 12 connection jacks depending on the size of the room. Network wires run from each jack to a central closet where they are connected to a port on an Ethernet switch. Computers are connected to the network through a patch cable, that we provide, which connects the machine to the wall jack.

Wireless network connections -
The department's wireless access policies and documentation is more thoroughly explained by clicking LAWN Wireless Network.

Criteria for accessing the network - Every machine that connects to our network must have a registered DNS hostname and IP address. The information needed to complete a DNS entry can be viewed by clicking - How to Request a DNS entry

Additional information might be required if your machine has special requirements. DHCP, NAT, Firewall, multiple machine subnet ... information needed to request any of these types of services can be viewed by clicking - How to Request additional services.

Networking issues - If you experience any networking problems or have questions regarding the networks we support please email help@cs.rutgers.edu
