Minutes of the LCSR Users Group meeting on July 5, 2000.

Attendance: Rob Toth, Rob Tuck, Rick Thomas, Don Watrous, Ken Harris,
Don Smith, Rich Martin, Doug Motto

It was decided to reschedule meetings to 3:00 PM on the first
Wednesday of each month.

Doug Motto made a brief presentation of his plans for the next version
of the "please" system. Initially, he will concentrate his efforts on
please/reserve and please/schedule.

There was a short discussion of the upgrades planned for this summer
for the machines in the public labs and on grad-student desktops.

The Linux software on the machines in Hill 248 is being upgraded.

There was a followup discussion on student submitted software
packages. It was suggested that TINT might make a good vehicle for
handling this. LCSR staff will be available to help people submit
packages for TINT.

There was a discussion of ITI usage of our labs and machines. The
current estimate is that they will be finished with this by December
31, 2000.

The printer room remodeling is coming along slowly (estimated to be
about 60% done) They hope to be done by the start of the semester.
The large-format plotter will be installed in that room, along with
other printers. There was a discussion of how to restrict/pay-for
usage? Keycards were suggested. The topic is under investigation.

There was discussion of possibly installing some "cheating detection"
software in the "handin" program, that would look for similarities
between assignments handed in by different people.

Next meeting will be in the LCSR Conference room at 3:00 PM on August
2nd.
