Debashish Bhattacharya (http://dblab.rutgers.edu/home/index.php ) in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources (SEBS, Foran Hall, Cook/Douglas) is looking for a couple of CS students (graduate/undergraduate) for bioinformatics work. Debashish does really interesting work in algal genomics understanding evolution and its mechanisms using single cell genomic techniques and DNA sequencing (we have an ongoing joint project in this area). Solid CS is very important: if you have done any sort of real-world, large data machine learning and don't mind working with large, real datasets using HPC compute infrastructures, know a scripting language or two, you are very well qualified. Biology and/or Bioinformatics is secondary.

*Project Description:*
The HistoryCrawl project is a multi-instution research initiative led by  Dr. Matthew Weber. The project focuses on the study of the evolution of  the World Wide Web, through an examination of the growth of  organizations on the Web, and networks of associations between organizations in the online space. The cornerstone of this project is the HistoryCrawl Web crawler (beta). The Web crawler is designed to interface with the Internet Archive's (archive.org <http://archive.org> ) repository, which hosts an archived subset of the World Wide Web with Web pages dating back to 1996. The HistoryCrawl tool extracts data from the archive, and allows for the analysis of a wide range of research initiatives focusing on the evolution of communities online and longitudinal analysis of networks. Two studies are currently underway,one examining the process by which media organizations have adapted to new Web technology, and the other looking at the growth of political activism in the online environment.

* Programmer Job Description:*
