Application Developer

The Laboratory for Computer Science Reasearch (LCSR) is currently seeking an experienced Application Developer.

Job Description

Reports to the Associate Director of the LCSR Computing Facility. Position will be responsible for developing software necessary for the support of a wide variety of departmental activities. Will specify, design, code, test, and analyze software programs prepared independently or collaboratively with other members in a team environment. Will research user requirements, available tools, and prepare specifications. Will develop, document, and modify software throughout the product life cycle. Will have primary responsibility for the development and administration of department database systems. Will maintain database hardware and software; monitor database system performance; and manage access to data and develop database software to support the Department of Computer Science's increasing dependence on data-driven processes.

Job Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in related degree, preferably computer science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with three or more years of relevant work experience in the development of web and database applications with DBA experience. Must have sound knowledge of programming methods and procedures, documentation procedures, program flow charts and operator instructions. Must, also, have experience with web-oriented programming with extensive knowledge of SQL, PHP, Perl, Java, Javascript, XML, HTML/XHTML, DHTML, CSS, XSLT, DOM, AJAX, XML-RPC, and SSL; source and version control tools; and debugging tools. Experience with database development and administration in an Oracle environment with knowledge of PL/SQL, SQLPlus, and Oracle Net; compilation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Apache web server; and software prototyping, development cycles and design patterns preferred. Experience with Fedora Directory Server and Kerberos is desired. Knowledge of C, Java, and C++ is preferred.
