Rutgers University DCIS Colloquium Date: Tuesday, June 1, 2004 Time: 11:00 AM Location: CoRE Building room 301, Busch Campus, Rutgers University
Abstract: Sprint has built a massive infrastructure for its Tier-1 IP backbone network. A detailed understanding of network traffic is needed to evaluate performance, validate design and guide growth. In this talk we first introduce the Sprint IP group's approach to traffic monitoring and data collection. We then dive into several different areas where we have gathered interesting results, such as availability and precise delay measurement. Finally we touch upon some ongoing work on continuous monitoring of high speed links. Speaker Bio: Tao Ye is a principal member of technical staff at Sprint Advanced Technology Labs. She is interested in many areas of computer science from both engineering and research perspectives. The areas include but are not limited to mobile devices, ubiquitous application platforms, network and infrastructure security, and understanding networks through monitoring. Her current focus is on combining system building and network research in high speed link monitoring. Prior to Sprint, she was a tech-lead engineer in Consilient Inc. Before that she worked on introducing JavaTV into European standards body DVB while at Sun Microsystems.
