Dr. Dimitris Metaxas, Professor of Computer Science in the School of Arts and Sciences and Biomedical Engineering in the School of Engineering, received the Rutgers Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Research at a reception held on May 7, 2008 at the home of President Richard L. McCormick.
Dr. Metaxas was recognized for his research in the fields of computer vision, computer graphics, and medical image analysis, including his work on three-dimensional deformable models and in the coupling of physics-based modeling and machine learning methods. He has over 240 publications, has received 5 scientific prizes for his work and holds (or has applied for) 5 patents. Dr. Metaxas currently serves as Director of the Center on BioImaging and Modeling (CBIM), which he established in 2001.
