The LCSR Unix Environment
Organization
There are 4 basic groups (or clustersof LCSR machines, plus
some subsidiary groups.
- Division of Computer and Information Science
- The Faculty Suns are for the use of DCIS Faculty, to
support their research and class preparation. The mail server for
this machine is cs.rutgers.edu. Machines in this cluster
include athos.rutgers.edu, porthos.rutgers.edu,
and aramis.rutgers.edu, and faculty office-machines.

- The Graduate Student Suns are for DCIS Grad Students,
for their classwork and research. Machines in this cluster include
paul.rutgers.edu (the mail server), george.rutgers.edu
john.rutgers.edu, ringo.rutgers.edu, murray.rutgers.edu
and various office and public-lab machines, notably in 330 Core and 354 Hill Centers.

- The Undergraduate Suns are for DCIS Undergraduate
Students.
These machines include remus.rutgers.edu (the mail server),
romulus.rutgers.edu, and rhea.rutgers.edu,

- The Instructional Computing Labs are for
DCIS Students taking certain courses. These machines
are located in Hill 248, 250, and 252. See these labs' web server for more information.
- Math Department - these machines are for Mathematics
Departmental use. Their web server is
here.
- DIMACS - these machines are for the Center for Discrete
Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science. Here's their
Web server.
(Note that there are other, more general-access-to-the-university
machines. The machines described above are not for use by
students, faculty, or staff who are not part of the department or
program to which these machines are dedicated.)
In addition to the actual machines, a high-speed network
connects these machines to one another, and to the rest of the world.
