Past Talks:
- I spoke recently on Service
Architectures for Next Generation Wireless Networks at the National Academy of Engg. The
talk
was on the engineering challenges of building services on
emerging
wireless networks (2.5G, 3G) that will scale for customers nationwide.
Challenges are unique when it is not a laboratory prototype, but a
nationwide
utility. Slides.
- I spoke about Ron Graham's
Influence on Theory of Scheduling on the occasion of his
retirement from AT&T Labs. Slides. Among other things, it was a lot
of fun picking the memories of Ed Coffman, Mike Garey and David Johnson
about the nascent days of scheduling.
- I spoke about Document Retrieval
Problems at ACM-SIAM SODA 2002 conference. This
gives the ideas behind efficient algorithms for many natural document
retrieval problems. Slides.
- I spoke at a panel on To WAP or
not to WAP, mainly why not to WAP. WAP is the wireless
application protocol that is meant to facilitate data applications on
slim devices such as cell phones. This panel was organized by NYU
Business school as well as SmartRay network in New York City. Slides.
- I spoke about Probabilistic
Techniques for Data Stream Computations at the AMS meeting
at San Diego, Jan 2002. Gives an overview of estimating rarity,
computing wavelet and fourier coefficients, and building histograms on
data streams. Scheduled to speak on related material at
Warwick Algorithms and Complexity Day on May 3, 2002.
